Overview

Change is rarely resisted because people are difficult. More often, it is because change is experienced as a threat to certainty, control, belonging, status, or fairness. Understanding how the brain responds to change gives leaders a powerful advantage in helping people engage, adapt, and move forward.

This practical and engaging webinar explores the neuroscience behind change and why even well-intentioned change initiatives can trigger resistance, defensiveness, or disengagement. Participants will learn how the brain continuously scans for threat and safety cues, how these signals influence behaviour at work, and what leaders can do to create the conditions for trust, learning, and successful change adoption.

Using the SCARF model and Peas in a Pod's science-backed ACTIVE© Leadership Framework, leaders will gain practical tools to reduce unnecessary threat, create psychological safety, and lead change conversations with greater confidence and effectiveness.

What to Expect

Participants will learn how to apply neuroscience-based leadership practices to real workplace change challenges through:

  • Understanding why change is experienced as a brain event and how threat responses affect thinking, learning, and collaboration
  • Exploring the SCARF model and the five social domains that influence people's reactions to change: Status, Certainty, Autonomy, Relatedness, and Fairness
  • Identifying common sources of change resistance and reframing them into opportunities for engagement and ownership
  • Learning practical communication techniques that create safety, trust, inclusion, and motivation during times of uncertainty
  • Applying the ACTIVE© Leadership Framework to lead change with greater awareness, connection, clarity, adaptability, innovation, and engagement
  • Using a practical leader playbook before, during, and after change conversations
  • Completing a mini SCARF audit to diagnose and address real change challenges in the workplace

Participants will leave with practical tools, leader language, and a simple framework for helping people navigate change more effectively while maintaining engagement, trust, and performance.
